The year is 2009. Worldwide political tensions are at a breaking point when a commercial airliner is shot down by a U.S. missile over Eastern Europe, killing all aboard. The U.S. government claims no involvement, and dispatches Agent Michael Thorton to investigate and bring those responsible to justice. As the first modern day spy role-playing game, Alpha Protocol offers unprecedented control over the development of Thorton's abilities and his interactions with other characters. Upgrade skills such as physical combat, weapons mastery, cutting-edge technology and even seduction as you grow in experience and complete missions. Customizable Spy - Players continually develop their spy with advanced close-combat techniques, lethal marksmanship, the ability to wield ingenious spy gadgets, and much more. Multiple Paths to Choose From - With no right or wrong decisions, players can constantly change the storyline based on the choices they make. Will they let a terrorist escape to follow a lead, or eliminate targets against the mission agenda? Demanding decisions are challenging and many. Revolutionary Interaction System - With the Alpha Protocol “Ripple Effect” system, players can interact with allies and enemies in a variety of ways. Their choices will dynamically change the storyline and unlock new missions, weapons and alliances. Complete Choice of Combat Style - An arsenal of weapons with a plethora of customizable add-ons allows players to create a personalized weapon load out for every mission. Cutting-edge technology, stealth maneuvers, ballistic explosives and more can be discovered and used! No Time to Spare - Every decision and interaction in Alpha Protocol is made with a time-limit that steadily ebbs away. Players must think fast, act urgently, and then prepare for the consequences! Real Modern-Day Setting - Players can live out real-world espionage within rich international settings such as Rome, Moscow, Taipei, and Saudi Arabia.

  could have been great... 7/10

this game had everything going for it; a style thats never been done before in an RPG, cool guns/gadgets, fully customizable options (weapons, attributes). it could have been great, but unfortunately it just comes up short. Weak story and graphics, horrible enemy AI and buggy controls leaves this game feeling unpolished. I still had a blast gunning through the game, but it left me a bit sad thinking of what could have been. This could have been a great game, unfortunately it just isnt.
  So close to good 7/10

There are many things that I like about this game. So much detail put into the characters, the story got a bit thin in points, but genuinely had me interested, and the mini games (Conversations, Lockpicking, Hacking, and bypassing) were actually a challenge, and fun. Unfortunately the AI is TERRIBLE. Sometimes you could sneak up to someone by running at them. Others would set off alarms through walls. So inconsistent. It's a shame, cause I did enjoy it.
  Mediocre. So much potential. 5/10

I love the dialogue system in this game and the voice acting was good. The main character was awesome, but everything else is just "ok" and kind of frustrating. Mainly the animations and gameplay.
  Pretty good. 8/10

A decent game that blends stealth and RPG. Not a bad way to spend 15 hours or so.
  Awesome but flawed game 9/10

One of my biggest surprises for 2010. This game is far from perfect, but I'm still giving it a 9 since it's trying things that no other games have tried. It takes the 'choices' of Mass Effect to a whole new level, the choices really matters here. What you do might prevent you from doing some missions and impact your relationships with all characters. There a lot of different builds you can create for your character so each problem has different solutions. If you're open minded, give it a try.
James Bond with buggy gameplay and weak story 6/10

"The Espionage RPG" sounds great on paper but what is delivered is bug riddled, has poorly developed combat, terrible animations and characters you never care about. The story could have been interesting but it felt so slopped together, you just stopped paying attention early on. The core of the game, stealthing and shooting, are not fun and dont work well though not that it matters since the enemies are awful and the boss fights are boring. A maybe rental if you have nothing else.
